2002 Egyptian Rababa

On a trip to san Francisco several years ago, we visited Lark in the Morning, a music store which carries an extensive line of exotic instruments. A couple of years later, I decided that Rabab should have a Rababa. It was easy to find one on their web site.

A rababa has two metal strings (they were probably not metal in older times) that are played with a bow, a crude version of a violin bow. It looks more like a crude version of an archer's bow strung with horsehair like a violin bow, instead of a cord. I haven't the faintest idea of how to play it; I bought it as a display piece.
